The following tips are a collection of helpful advice to aid you in extending the life of your transmission. While the opinions expressed here are helpful, it is recommended that you check your owners manual as all transmissions are not alike. STC cannot be held responsible for damage to your transmission.

STC Tips For Maintaining A Healthy Transmission

1. Check your battery terminals to be sure there is no corrosion. Corrosion can make the voltage supply to vital electrical components falter, thus placing the operation of your components and transmission in danger.
2. Service your transmission 2 times a year but no less than once a year. Catching problems early can mean the difference of a simple repair versus a major expense to rebuild or replace a transmission.
3. Consider Installing a cooler onto your vehicles transmission. A cooler can drastically extend the life of your transmission and in most cases can be easily taken off and used on another vehicle if sold.

How To Check Your Transmission Fluids

Begin by getting your engine at operating temperature. Place your car in the "park" position, (check your owners manual as settings may vary), and make certain that your vehicle is on a flat and level ground.

Pull the stick out, (If you are not sure of it's location then check your owners manual to be certain), thoroughly wipe down the stick and replace it back again until it is fully locked into position. Pull the stick out again.
Note the "cold" and "hot" markings on your stick. For all intensive purposes we will use the "hot" markings as our guide as checking your fluids cold is always discouraged. Be sure the fluids are at the "hot" level. If you notice that your levels are under the safe zone of your stick then proceed to the next step to fill your levels to a proper and safe level. Take a moment to smell the fluid on your stick, if it is blackish or has a burning smell, this may indicate that your transmission is close to having a problem.
Before filling your levels back up to their safe zones, be sure that you are using the right kind of fluids. Again, the best way to be sure is to refer to your owners manual. When you are done, recheck your fluids until the proper level is achieved.
